As parents and community members, we've come to expect an excellent education for our children in Evergreen schools, but recent devastating state budget cuts have forced teacher lay-offs, increased class sizes, and the reduction of programs and services in our district that may affect the quality of education.
There are two organizations helping create change in Evergreen. Made up of a group of concerned parents, we are exploring solutions with school district officials, teachers, local government officials, state legislators, and parent from other districts. The two groups are addressing funding cuts to education on two fronts:
- Evergreen Elementary Community-in-Action (EECIA) Evergreen Elementary Community-in-Action (EECIA) was formed in response to the cuts facing the 13,500 children attending the eighteen schools in EESD. Our goal is to educate, inform, and communicate with parents about the issues that directly affect our children in the classroom. As a chapter in the advocacy organization Educacy, EECIA is also committed to addressing and solving school budget issues at local and state levels to ensure that every student has access to equitable and adequate educational funding and opportunities. We are working on a series of community events in Fall 2010 that are specifically designed to engage parents. We welcome your assistance or attendance at the EESD school board candidate forum and at Local voter registration drives.
